Being an adult can suck, and it can be awesome. And sometimes the sucking part is what’s awesome (wink, wink, because I totally mean that in a dirty way).

Being an adult can suck sometimes. Like, when the mortgage is due.

But sometimes, it can be awesome. Like, when you get to have your own nightstand and keep whatever dirty things you want in it.

Or, this:

That’s right, mold-a-ramas from the zoo. Those crazy machines that let off that really good but probably toxic melted plastic smell.

Back in the day, before we were totally broke, hubby and I had zoo passes, and every trip I would bring home a new mold-a-rama. Why? Because I fucking could!

When I was little, and at the zoo with my parents, I remember  wanting one so bad. It was just so much fun to watch the things being made (the machines had a clear covering so you could see the awesome molding process). I would usually have to cop a view from some other kid whose parent gave them a dollar.

But my parents were all like, ‘A dollar? No way! Then we’d have to give your sisters each one and that is 3 dollars!’ I still, at the age of 33, day dream of being an only child, people.

But as an adult at the zoo, I got to put my one dollar in that mold-a-rama machine, and laugh at all of the kids walking past, begging their parents for a dollar.

That’s right. I collected them all, bitches.

  1. I don’t know what these are, but they’re FANTASTIC. I want to glue them all together in some sort of mass/totem of chaos, and turn them into the most awful lamp ever. I can’t….. I just love you so much right now.

    • That’s so sad. Mold-a-ramas are awesome! Although in addition to that collection, we also started a pressed pennies one, and that was cool, too! Oh my gosh, we even got one of those special booklet thingys to store all of our collectible pennies.

  2. I sometimes tell my kids that being an adult is cool because they can eat ice cream for lunch if they feel like it, which is true, but I don’t also mention that their mother has a wicked bingeing problem, so maybe I should start telling them they can collect mold-a-ramas, instead. It seems so much more sane. :)

  3. Love the molds! I never had any, though now you’ve got me thinking about all the things my parents wouldn’t buy me that I would like to buy for myself. Oh, a whole world is opening up!

  4. I remember those animals! Man, how I wish I’d saved mine. The Zody’s store (a Target-type store now defunct) had a machine inside that made dinosaurs. Every time my Mom took me there for clothes shopping, those were my bribe: try on everything without complaining, and you can have a wax dinosaur. Ahh, thanks for the memory, which now resides in a brain that is slowly hardening into wax!

  5. Hilarious heading!

Being an adult does have its perks. I for one enjoy the little things like not having to fold my laundry right away if I choose not to or having breakfast for dinner because I can.

    To adulthood! Cheers
